African Lion (Panthera leo)

description of the animal

African Lion (Panthera leo)

Information:

The African Lions are the largest terrestrial predator of the whole african continent. They weigh up to 300 kilogramms and the male have an impressing mane around their face, while the lionesses don’t have.

Their natural habitat is spanned about Africa and parts of Europe and Asia, but today African lions can only be found in sub-Saharan africa.

Similar to wolves, the lions exist within a pride, often with just one full-grown lion and many lionesses. They hunt typical african animals like gazelles and zebras, but also birds and wild dogs. Bigger animals like giraffes are hunted in groups of three. The biggest hunter of the lions are humans, who decimate their population, considerably.
