Aardvark (Orycteropus afer)

The name Orycteropus afer refers to a frankly awkward mammal, which is widely known as Aardvark or Ant bear. It is only common in the continent of Africa and especially in the geographical area of Ethiopia through Senegal to the shores of the Cape of Good Hope.

Its body resembles the shape of a big rat and it can barely reach the size of one and a half meter. It is covered by thick and hard hair, and has a long kangaroo-like tail. His ears remind of those of a rabbit and his head reminds of a pig.

It is nocturnal active and its actual food source, are termites, ants, worms and other insects. Aardvarks are really individual animals and are not often accompanied by others of their kind. The female can give birth to a single young, after a period of seven to nine months, which stays under the protection of the mother for six months.
