Cubera Snapper (Lutjanus cyanopterus)

The Cubera Snapper (Lutjanus cyanopterus) is the biggest fish of the snapper species. It has a dark brown or gray color thin body with a long pectoral fin, a grayish dorsal and tail fin and reddish anal and ventral fins. Its length can reach up to 160 cm with a weight of up to 57 kg.

It is most common in tropical waters of the West Atlantic in depths from 18 to 70 m. The Cubera Snapper is a carnivore which feeds mainly on fish, shrimps, lobsters and crabs.

After traveling long distances for spawning, it releases its eggs into offshore waters where they hatch within a day.
