Impala (Aepyceros melampus)

The impala is an african antilope. Impalas stand a height of 90 centimetres at the shoulder and the males weigh up to 65 kilograms, while the female weigh 40 kilograms. Characteristic is their white lower abdomen, while the rest of the animal is brown. As distinguished from the females, the males have a kind of horns, which are useful fo defence.

Their natural habitats are steppes especially in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Uganda and south africa. According to that, the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Ressources (IUCN) says the impala is least concern. The female impalas are living within a pride, while the males prefer living as solitaries.

Living in a pride seems to be safer, but it is not. Hunters of the impalas often make use of this fact, because it is easier for them to catch one out of many animals. To live as a solitary, an impala is offended not as often, but the likelihood to be killed is highly probably.
