Mexican Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum)

description of the animal

Mexican Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum)

Information:

The Mexican Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) is one of the most exotic creatures. It won’t ever carry out metamorphosis which results in staying in its larvae form until its death. They possess a very compact body type and also a flattened fin. They don’t have eyelids and their teeth are almost translucent.

As their name would suggest their main habitant are the lakes of Mexico. But their population is getting decimated year by year now because of Mexico’s steady growing.

The Axolotl finds its food by smelling it. It preys on smaller members of the food chain, such as smaller fish, insects or worms.

One of the most interesting and outstanding skills that the Axolotl possesses is the ability to regenerate almost every body part; even parts of its brain and heart can be renewed.
