Queen Angelfish (Holacanthus ciliaris)

description of the animal

Queen Angelfish (Holacanthus ciliaris)

Information:

The Queen Angelfish (Holacanthus ciliaris) has a very distinctive blue colour with many yellow and orange parts on its scale that seem to twinkle when light shines on its body. It is a very slim and rather big fish.

The Queen Angelfish can be normally found in reefs near various islands like the Bahamas. It prefers the warmer regions of the Atlantic Ocean. That is why it can be also found near the Gulf of Mexico and Florida.

These fishes need to eat sponges filled with a little amount algae to survive. They also eat tunicates or bryozoans. Their eating habit is one of the primarily reasons, why raising them in an aquarium is a difficult task to handle.
